The Stem Cell Lab in the department of Developmental Neurobiology at the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is a research-based core dedicated to developing model systems to study normal and defective human neurogenesis. In collaboration with individual labs and according to their project-specific requirements, we develop and optimize protocols for generating specific neuronal and glial lineages in both 2D and 3D systems, from control, genetically modified, and patient-specific human pluripotent stem cells. Our goal is to generate reliable and robust in vitro models of different regions of the developing human brain, a valuable tool to study human species-specific mechanisms underlying various forms of pediatric brain tumors.
