The goal for the Tissue Engineering Platform is to provide the CRG, PRBB and external researchers with the latests technologies used in the fields of stem cell biology, stem cell differentiation, organoid formation and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). The Unit is constantly setting up new technologies that are emerging in the above fields.
The Tissue Engineering platform works in collaboration with the Biomolecular Screening & Protein Technologies Unit at the CRG to provide integrated projects in CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing technology.

Dr Laura Batlle Morera has led the unit since 2015. Dr Batlle holds a BSC in Biochemistry (Universitat de Barcelona) and a PhD in Stem Cell Biology and Embryology (University of Edinburgh). Dr Batlle has 14 years of experience in stem Biology and Embryology projects. The Unit is currently composed by Dr Batlle and a technitian specialised in CRISPR/Cas9 and Stem cell applications.

The unit works in a brand new tissue culture laboratory fully equiped, composed of two divided areas by applications and with dedicated equipment for Tissue Culture, cryopreservation, efficient electroporation and live imaging. The unit is composed as well with a dedicated space for Molecular Biology.

Current services provided by the platform include:
• Mouse ES cell derivation
• Human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSc) projects
• Stem cell differentiation
• CRISPR/CAS9 Gene Editing Technology
• Embryo micromanipulation

The Unit is currently finishing the setup of organoid technology and it will be offered shortly as a service.
